A swimming pool pump keeps water circulating, clearing out debris and spreading chemicals like chlorine evenly. Without it, water can stagnate, leaving your pool less clean and unsafe.
Pools come in all shapes and sizes, so choosing a pump that matches your pool’s volume and layout is massively important. The right pump keeps water moving properly, maintaining a fresh, clear, and balanced pool every time.
How to work out your pool’s volume and pump size
Keeping your pool clean starts with the right pump. To make sure water circulates properly, you first need to work out your pool’s volume.
Measure your pool
Note the length, width, and average depth in metres.
Calculate the volume
Multiply length × width × depth. That gives you cubic metres. Multiply by 1,000 to get litres.
Example: 25 × 12 × 1.5 = 450 m³ = 450,000 litres
Find litres per minute
To filter the pool twice a day, multiply total litres × 2, then divide by 1,440 (minutes in 24 hours).
Example: 450,000 × 2 ÷ 1,440 ≈ 625 L/min
Once you know this number, you can choose a pump that keeps your pool water circulating correctly.
